The Archipelago Singers
The Archipelago Singers is an Indonesian chamber choir established in 2008 by a group of people who have great interest and
admiration on choral music. The choir’s name is chosen to reflect Indonesia, the
world's largest archipelagic state having thousands of ethnic groups and
numbers of religious views. As reflected in its name, in addition to being an
organization that hosts the passions of its members in choral singing, the
members of The Archipelago Singers have also committed to make this choir a
mean for delivering and promoting the spirit of “unity in diversity” through
music in Indonesia.
Most recently in July 2015, marking its third
international tour, The Archipelago Singers was proud to be the 1st Prize Winner of the Chamber Choir Category
and 3rd Prize Winner of Folksong Category at one of Asia's most
prestigious international choir competitions, the 2nd Andrea O. Veneracion International Choral Festival
in Manila, Philippines.
During its second international tour in 2014, The
Archipelago Singers has succeeded to win the 1st Prize for Mixed Choir Category (awarded with "Generalitat de
Catalunya" Award) at the 32nd Cantonigros International Music Festival in
Vic, Spain, to become the first Indonesian choir winning the first prize in
the long history of the competition. Additionally, during the 60th International Choir Competition for
Habaneras and Polyphony of Torrevieja, Spain, The Archipelago Singers earned
1st Prize for Polyphony Category (earning the "Costa Blanca" Award)
and Best Interpretation for Popular Habaneras (earning the "Fransico
Vallejos" Special Award).
The recent achievements continued The Archipelago
Singers’ winning tradition. During its first international tour in year 2012, The Archipelago Singers
successfully won the 1st Prize for
Folklore Category (earning the Public Prize) and the 2nd Prize for Classical
Music Category (earning Golden Diploma for excellent international achievement)
in the 9th International Choir Competition, Miltenberg, Germany.
Having the passion of its members on choral music
and their singing competence, The Archipelago Singers interpretes various genre
of choral music encompassing classical and popular choral repertoir as well as
Indonesian traditional folksongs. The Archipelago Singers also frequently
performs in various occasions and concerts, including its successful annual and
occassional concerts: "Peace, I Leave With You (2009), "Pray and
Sway" (2011), "For Indonesia (2012), "Love Dimesion, A
Valentine's Concert (2013),
"Enlightened" (2013), "Cultura" (2014), "Amore"
(2015) and "The Archipelago and the Pearl of the Orient" (2015).
The Archipelago Singers is conducted by Ega O. Azarya, one of Indonesian
most talented young conductors.
