Ega O Azarya, Conductor
Ega O. Azarya’s interest in classical music begun during his early piano lesson under the tutorial of Ms. Romey Mandala. This has led him to his passion on classical choral music during his time as a member of world renowned Parahyangan Catholic University Choir in Bandung. With the choir, Ega took part in numbers of national and international concerts and competitions. Under the direction of Paulus H. Yoedianto͵ Ivan Yohan͵ and Avip Priatna͵ he had the opportunity to pursue more experience in choral singing through the participation in La Fabbrica del Canto͵ Legnano͵Italy (2006 & 2011), the 45th International Choir Competition, Spittal an der Drau, Austria (2008), Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod, Llangollen, England (2010) and Florilège Vocal de Tours, Tours, France (2011).

Ega’s most notable personal achievement was in year 2007 when he was selected to sing with the Asian Youth Choir under the direction of Chifuru Matsubara, a choir having the most talented singers from all over Asia as the members. Most recently, he joined forces with ReChords Vocal Ensemble which successfully won the 2nd Overall Prize in one of Asia’s most prestigious choral competition, the Takarazuka International Chamber Chorus Contest in Japan.

As a classical vocalist, Ega learned vocal technique from Ivan Yohan͵ Dody Soetanto͵ Dorcas Soenaryo͵ and currently he is pursuing the lesson from Joseph Kristanto Pantioso. He is also taking choral and orchestral conducting lesson from Tommy Prabowo.

Despite his bachelor degree in architecture, Ega’s extensive involvement in a wide range of choral music activities has made him recognized as one of Indonesian most talented young conductor. He engages now as vocal trainer͵ choral clinician͵ conductor and choral coach of various choirs in Bandung, besides his commitment to remain actively involved with the Parahyangan Catholic University Choir, where he is now acting as conductor and member of its Artistic Team. Since 2012, Ega has also been sharing his talent with The Archipelago Singers as its conductor.
